Our History

At the McDade-Cara School, we are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the rich tradition of Irish step and figure dancing.

We also firmly believe that instruction in step dancing develops the overall physical abilities of our children and strengthens their self-esteem as they master the progression of dance steps.

Above all, it is our hope to provide an atmosphere where girls and boys can have fun and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

Our Newest Dancers

We welcome our youngest dancers to the studio, where they are introduced to Irish dance wearing traditional Irish Dance soft shoes, similar to ballet shoes. Children as young as three through six years of age are welcome to come learn!

Competitive Dance

Champs & Teams Dancers

With hard work and dedication, the young men and women here at McDade Cara love to complete. Every year, we have the honor of sending dancers to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Oireachtas, the North American Irish Dance Championships (NAIDC) and World Irish Dancing Championships – where they compete against dancers from around the world.

Learning Hard & Soft Shoes

Beginner & Adv. Beginners

These dancers begin by learning soft shoe dances, Light Jig, Reel and Slip Jig. Eventually the dancers will begin hard shoe dances including Treble Jig, Hornpipe and Traditional Set. Dancers are eligible to begin to compete in their first “Feis,” an Irish Dance competition.
